At the Canadian Scoliosis and Neuro Centre, we provide specialized group sessions designed to help you manage scoliosis effectively through the Schroth Best Practices (SBP) exercise program. Our group sessions offer a supportive and collaborative environment, perfect for enhancing your treatment and achieving better health outcomes.
Choosing group sessions for scoliosis treatment comes with several advantages:
In our group sessions, you will practice your individualized Schroth Best Practice (SBP) exercise program under the supervision of a trained physiotherapist. These sessions offer an immersive experience where you can refine your exercises, receive feedback, and adjust your program as needed. The group setting encourages a more dynamic and engaging workout.
Our group sessions are ideal for individuals with idiopathic scoliosis, whether they are currently using a brace, have completed their bracing, or are not using a brace at all. To participate, clients must complete an individualized scoliosis assessment with one of our physiotherapists and review their SBP exercise program.
Idiopathic scoliosis is a condition characterized by an unusual curvature of the spine, usually diagnosed in children and adolescents. The term “idiopathic” means that the cause of the scoliosis is unknown. It is the most common type of scoliosis and can vary in severity. Early detection and treatment are crucial to managing the progression of the curve and maintaining a healthy spine. Our group sessions are specifically designed to support individuals with idiopathic scoliosis through targeted exercises and personalized care.
To be eligible for group sessions, clients need to undergo a thorough assessment and have their SBP program assigned. Our pre-screening assessment includes a review of your medical history, a physical exam, and an analysis of your x-rays.
For kids between 4 and 10 with scoliosis, combining physical help with emotional support is crucial. Group treatments can be incredibly beneficial, providing the necessary care while allowing kids to connect with peers facing similar challenges.

For teens aged 10 to 18, scoliosis treatment must address both physical and emotional aspects. Group treatments for adolescents create a collaborative and supportive environment where they can manage scoliosis together.

The SIR program is part of the Schroth Best Practice approach, developed by Dr. Hans R. Weiss in Germany. It offers a comprehensive strategy for scoliosis rehabilitation, combining education on posture and curvature with corrective exercises. Participants will learn specific postural corrections and exercises to improve their spine’s health.
